Public Access 5 - Picture perfect in a world of chaos.

Founders Heritage Park, Nelson. September 23 – October 24.

Cut Collective’s fifth iteration of the Public Access exhibition marks a renewed focus on topical matters and a concentrated collaborative process.

Working around the central theme of “Picture Perfect in a World of Chaos”, this show deals with the representation of a world that is a palpable fantasy, and looks to explore the ridiculous nature of the variant realities we receive through multiple media channels. Something we here at CC have come to call “The Gap”.

When couched amongst the cataclysmic events that nature has brought to bear upon the world over the last few years, man made calamities such as the ongoing global financial crisis almost pale in comparison, almost. It could be said mother nature has provided the perfect scenario in which to obscure the devastation we inflicted upon ourselves. Or more accurately, the harm that few have inflicted upon many.

Through chaos we can achieve control, in the vacuum of order we can implement change. With the dissolution of community we champion the individual, it’s isolation through adversity and who wins when the village falls apart?

Joining the core cast of Cut Collective for the show is Hone Stjohn, a photographer and filmmaker with a focus on documenting street life and music related activity. Having worked with Homebrew, Scratch22 and most recently the @peace project on a variety of music videos, he’s now collaborating with Cut Collective to produce a moving image piece for Public Access 5.

Public Access 5 is one of three components hosted within Oi You!, a major street art event taking place under one roof at Founders Heritage Park, Nelson. The other parts are an exhibition of works from Banksy, Faile, Micallef, Os Gemeos, Swoon and others. And the Oi You! competition exhibition featuring the work of the competition finalists.

White Night-Salad Dayze

“White Night” is part of the 2011 Auckland Arts Festival, it was happening on Saturday (12/03/2011), over 50 public and private art galleries, museums and cultural centres within Auckland opened their doors to the public for one night. We got amongst it all and did some outdoor painting, we were situated up on Parnell Rise at a construction site through out the day, definitely added some colors to the white walls with an art piece based on the good old salad days.

Shake & Bake 2011 (Base FM)

Amazing day at Western Park on a summer Saturday (BASE FM). The music and the vibe shaped the day into a celebration of being alive, remembering the lives of others in Christchurch. Thanks to all those who contributed towards making it a special day. From setting up the stage to filling the park with good sounds and everyone who helped with organizing the raffle tickets for Ch Ch, great efforts!

We had an idea to paint the trailer again this year and ran with the milk idea. Big thanks to guest artist Nigel Roberts for his involvement in this project. Here are some pictures from the day.

Shake & Bake 2011

We’re painting at Shake & Bake this Saturday with guest artist Tenze. Should be fun painting the trailer again. Please look out for the Christchurch Relief Raffle on the day, we’ll be donating some prints towards the winning prizes. Keep buying those raffle tickets!

Cardiac Arrest

Cardiac is the official name of the horse we’ve painted recently but we call him Barry, it is made out of fibre glass. This is a project we got involved in as part of the Resene Fastest Art Exhibition with Jay Reeve from ZM. They needed some creative input so we jumped on board because it is a charity project and the nominated charity is NZ Heart Foundation.
